I found this photographer and I thought he had an interesting view on the cowboy lifestyle. I felt he was able to capture a different perspective then what is normally seen. I really liked his angles and color schemes, I found them eye catching and intriguing.

This week my brother has been working on the new commercial/photo shoot for Marlboro cigarettes. The first photo is one that he sent me from the shoot and the rest I googled. Marlboro has a very distinct advertisement strategy, they keep their cowboy theme going throughout the decades and it is what makes them so famous around the united states. They use the cowboy theme of independent, tough, American cowboy to sell their cigarettes as something that will help the individuals status as tough if they smoke Marlboro's.

5 images demonstrating adventure advertising critiques.

I chose pictures from a photographer named Justin Bailie. He doesn't have the most extraordinary pictures but I thought he had some decent examples.

For the first picture I chose a scenic photo of a hiker and his tent. I thought this was a good representation of using color to drive the viewers eye into the image. The hiker is wearing red which is the most prominent color, the tent is also eye catching. The photo has enough room in the sky for the company to place a logo or writing without covering over the important parts of the image.

The Next picture I chose was from the same photographer. Here he takes a different perspective of rafting. Here the viewer first focuses on the rafter leading their eye into his life jacket where there is a red whistle, even though this would be a good advertisement for life jackets, the red whistle brings the viewers eye into the image and the other yellow raft nicely brings your eye around the entire image.

The next image I chose was of a hiker crossing a log in a densely covered photo. Everything in the picture is either green or brown except for her brightly colored blue coat. the focus of this image is purely on the hiker with everything else being faded out. The person is far enough away so that there is no personal relationship with the model, leaving all the attention to the coat she is wearing. There is enough free space on the right hand corner of the image for a logo to be added without interfering with the hiker as being the main focus.

Here is a great picture for advertising kayaking. The model is wearing a red coat which brings the eye into the photo. His paddle also has red on it with the logo clearly showing. The kayak is close enough the label can be read on the side but the model has his head down low enough with his helmet on that there is no distinguishable features to personalize him with. The photographer again leaves enough free space on the left hand corner for writing or a logo.

The last image I chose was of a backpacker. I thought this was a good add for a backpacking company. THe backpack is a nice red which is outstanding from anything else in the image. the hiker is wearing neutral colors so that no more attention is drawn to him. There is enough space for a logo to be placed and the backpacker is in a natural environment as if demonstrating the use of the backpack.

Here are some interesting shots i found of underwater photography. I liked the idea of the formal dresses underwater I thought it was a different perspective than normal, it was intriguing.

Here are some pictures i found that I thought demonstrated some cool ideas for night time photography. i tried to find a few pictures with barns since we will be shooting with one later on in the semester. i liked the idea of lighting the barn, i thought it had a unique appearance.

Here are a few pictures I took last weekend. Through these I was experimenting a lot with natural lighting as well as trying to catch a different perspective. I felt I was able to get a variety of lighting as well as angles. My models were very comfortable with their surroundings which I think shows through the pictures.

Here is a blog i found with still life glass photography. i liked his use of color and angles. I felt he was able to catch a unique view with simple materials like wine glasses and color. 

Here are a few shots i took last night. i was messing around with settings and working with stop motion. these first two pictures i think came out the best, i was able to get the fire all the way through the barrel of the gun while keeping the picture relatively sharp. all i had for lighting was a spot light that was sitting next to the shooters, this made taking these pictures a little harder when working with shadows and lighting. the last picture i had my shutter speed lower so the image was not nearly as sharp as the first two but i liked how both the smoke and the fire is visible instead of the pistol.

here is a picture i took using the sunrise as my backlight. my goal for this photo was to have a slight halo effect around the horse from the sun.

Being as this is the first blog, these pictures are a few that i have taken for fun working with inside natural lighting. Since this semester largely focuses on studio photography i felt this would be an appropriate blog on the use of light under different circumstances.
